Tokyo! by Carey Blackburn

2019 has been such an exciting year so far, spent across the globe as a principal vocalist for Disney Tokyo! I am blown away by the scenery as well as the kindness and work ethic of the Japanese people. Also, I think I am made of ramen now.

This frigid weather around the country lately has made me especially grateful for my current gig: the Acting Apprenticeship at Florida Studio Theatre in beautiful Sarasota, FL! This contract consists of 9 months of workshops, performance opportunities, and developing proficiency in all aspects of being a theatre professional. Some of my projects so far include:

Maid Marian in Robin Hood!

I just reached the halfway point of my contract, and I have already learned so much from the people and experience of FST. I can't wait to see what other adventures the next five months have in store!

(Long Overdue) Updates! by Carey Blackburn

So it's been a hot minute since I've updated the interwebs on my life, which I guess is good because it means I've been crazy busy! Here goes:

First of all,

I GRADUATED!!

I am inexplicably grateful for everything I've learned at ECU and the growth it has brought me as a performer and as a human being.

Now for this summer: I am spending my second season with The Lost Colony on beautiful Roanoke Island! In addition to Actor/Technician responsibilities, I am a Pavanne dancer (shown below sporting a 28 pound dress) and the understudy for Eleanor Dare. I'm so excited to be back in the beautiful Outer Banks working with old and new friends alike, which makes the sweat and mosquitoes totally worth it!

Passion Project- Triple Threat Fitness! by Carey Blackburn

My final semester is in full swing, and along with the usual pre-graduation activities, I've started a passion project that I'm extremely excited about!

@Triplethreatfitnessguide

I decided to start TTF to provide performers with resources to develop their physical and vocal strength simultaneously while maintaining an equally healthy state of mind. If you have Instagram, follow me for workouts, recipes, and interviews with industry professionals to give insight on how to be the healthiest and happiest performer possible! One of my main goals is to develop this project into a full website/blog with interviews from performers and industry professionals alike on topics such as maintaining vocal technique while dancing, preventing injury during 8 show weeks, and meal preps that have appropriate nutrients for a performer's lifestyle. Keep an eye out this semester!

New Video Footage! by Carey Blackburn

As I begin the final Christmas break of my undergrad career, I’ve been focusing on building my YouTube and Media pages with recent performances. I’ve come a long way from being afraid my parents would overhear me singing in the shower!

My new additions include:

  • A highlight reel from Reefer Madness, my final mainstage production at ECU
  • Performances of “Cell Block Tango” from Chicago and “Bad Idea” from Waitress for ECU’s Night of Musical Theatre
  • A short cut from “Like It Was” from Merrily We Roll Along, a musical I recently discovered and fell in love with
  • Rehearsal footage from “Dogfight” from Dogfight with my friend and beloved duet partner Gabi

Watch, subscribe, share if you’re feeling extra generous!

My YouTube channel can be found here!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all :)

Reefer Madness by Carey Blackburn

I'm so excited to announce that I have been cast as Sally in East Carolina University's production of Reefer Madness! I'll be spending the next six weeks singing and dancing about "demon weed" with my best friends for my last musical here at ECU. The production runs November 17-22 in the McGinnis Theatre!

Note: This show incorporates lots of sexual, violent and drug related subject matter (in a comedic light.) Come with an open mind and leave the little ones at home!

Tickets can be purchased here!

Senior Year!! by Carey Blackburn

Senior year of undergrad is full of decisions, responsibility, and discovery! As I form my plans for after graduation, I'm looking at grad schools, UPTA and SETC screenings, and companies I'm interested in working for someday! While change can be intimidating, the level of training at ECU has given me all the tools I need to embark on my next journey with confidence, curiosity, and drive.

Shoutout to my Musical Theatre class of 2017 for being a constant support system and creative influence on my life!
